My first bike was also a 125 Hummer. I bought it around 1957 for $115. Can't remember too much about it except it was black and didnt't have much power. I can't remember what the front forks were like.
My second bike, around 1959/60 was an Indian Chief I bought for $35. Hand shift, foot clutch, etc. The kick starter didn't work so I had to push it to start. I ran beside it, jumped on and mashed down foot clutch. I weighed about 120 lbs. then - don't know what the bike weighed but I remember it was heavy. We lived on a street with a little incline so I could push it down hill. At school I parked on a little hill so I could roll it down the hill to start it. I will never forget the power it had when it would fire up. It would almost pull me off. Being in Albuquerque, NM then most everything was dirt - parking lots, etc. There is a term, can't remember it now, when you give it throttle and the back end slides around but you keep going straight - that was really fun. Fond memories of the Fiftys.
